The Tragedy of a Stolen Childhood

It stirs a deep, righteous indignation within us when we see a child robbed of her innocence. Valery was withdrawn, serious, and frequently lashed out at her peers.

Often, when a child from a hard place misbehaves, the adults around her react with harsh punishment—instead of empowerment and correction. But punishment only increases the child’s pain and shatters any remaining trust in adults.

We must see these actions with new eyes. Outward misbehavior is merely a symptom of profound physical pain and a deeply suffering soul.

Healing the Unseen Wounds

Providing basic needs like food and urgent physical care is absolutely vital. We believe in and promote meeting those needs first. But once a child is alive, we have to ask: Now what?

We must address the severe trauma caused by the adults who were supposed to protect them. When a child feels understood, embraced, and unconditionally loved, the walls come down.

Practical evidence shows that 80% of children from hard places can find profound healing when they are surrounded by equipped, loving adults and caregivers.

For the remaining 20% who require specialized clinical care, our G2G staff is fully equipped to provide that intensive, face-to-face healing intervention.

One Integrated Family, Face-to-Face

When our Guatemalan staff sits face-to-face with a child like Valery, holding her hands and helping her regulate her emotions, you are sitting right there with them. We are one integrated family, working as the Body of Christ to restore lives.

There is no "us" and "them," and there is no division between direct and indirect service. Integration is the answer.

Body: Valery is learning to listen to her body's signals. Instead of lashing out when overwhelmed, she now recognizes her physical states of stress and uses new strategies to find calm and balance.

Soul: She has replaced her walls with trust. Valery has gone from being isolated and shut down to expressing genuine joy, playing with other children, and using her voice to communicate her feelings safely.

Spirit: Valery is learning that she was created by God with immense value, dignity, and purpose. She now actively participates in prayer and is experiencing the deep security of true belonging within God’s family.
